FAITH IN CONFLICT
Exploring the self, understanding the other and encountering God in the midst of conflict .
“A journey of prayer and encountering historic enemies as well as training on how to bring the Gospel into places of war and conflict through peacemaking and forgiveness".
The “Faith in Conflict” gatherings are highly inspiring times where the participants embark on a journey of understanding to learn more about the beauty and pain of Lebanon and, as they do this, get basic teaching on peace-making and reconciliation, hear stories from peacemakers of the past and present, and see the reality of the current situation.
The days together are an opportunity to worship, to pray, and to hear from committed believers about how they can be a force for reconciliation in a country that has experienced much bloodshed. The gatherings are aimed to Christians who want to make a difference. All participants are involved in a variety of activities such as visiting other organizations, serving in different capacities, and listening to encouraging stories from the real protagonists. We also pray for God’s deep peace and healing to be born afresh in Lebanon and leave with full hearts and a determination and understanding of how we can build for peace in this part of the Middle East.
We have been running these gatherings for several years in various locations. During these gatherings we explore the role Christian believers can play in situations of ethnic and religious conflict. Lebanon suffered a terrible civil war from 1975-1990 and still to this day is scarred with the legacy of this conflict. Because of this recent history we have come to see peace-making as a fundamental calling in the believer's life.
We seek to create a sense of community in this journey of understanding and to challenge all of the participants to see how following Jesus will often lead us to be bridge-builders. We want the Faith in Conflict gatherings to equip people with basic skills and a strong inspiration to reach out to their enemies with the passionate love of Jesus.
